CAMWSCorps: an oral history in the making

Founded in 2012 on the model of NPR’s StoryCorps, CAMWSCorps interviews longtime members about their experiences at meetings and the value CAMWS brought to their professional careers. Under the guidance of the History Committee, these conversations have become an oral history of the association — a unique living legacy for future historians of the field.

Our immediate need is for volunteers willing to edit interviews that have been transcribed electronically at roughly 90% accuracy. (The program struggles with “CAMWS”: one finds “cameras,” “campus,” and even “Kanye West.”) Each file runs five to seven printed pages and takes a little over an hour to edit.

To volunteer, please email CAMWS Historian Ward Briggs at wbriggs7@bellsouth.net — many thanks from the CAMWS History Committee.

Our commitment

Statement supporting diversity

The Classical Association of the Middle West and South decries all forms of hate, discrimination, racism, bigotry, and xenophobia. We affirm that all people deserve to be treated with equal compassion, dignity, and respect.

Diversity is a resource that strengthens and benefits our entire community — be it diversity of ability, age, ethnicity, gender identity, nationality, political thought, race, religion, sexuality, socioeconomic status, veteran status, or culture. We unequivocally stand with our colleagues, students, families, and friends to support and celebrate all ways to be human.
